In The Last Watch, the wind-shaped Monterrey Cypress  that has faced storm after storm now stands in quiet stillness beneath a pale moon. Its branches, once bent by relentless winds, are now motionless against the night sky. The sea is calm, the air still, and the long vigil that defined the sentinel’s life has come to its silent end.

Inspired by the Romantic landscapes of Caspar David Friedrich, the work reflects the enduring symbolism of solitary trees in art—forms that stand between land and sky as witnesses to time, weather, and change. Like the wind-sculpted Monterey Cypress that cling to ocean cliffs, the sentinel embodies resilience shaped by the elements.

As the final chapter of the Sentinel Series, The Last Watch offers a quiet meditation on endurance, memory, and the passage of time. The storms have passed, the sea rests, and the watcher stands alone beneath the moon—holding its final vigil over the coast it has guarded for so long.  Depicted to scale at 24x36.
