Axis No. I — The Umber Field Triptych

From the Ash and Light Collection

A composed work in three movements, Axis No. I — The Umber Field Triptych is designed as a single architectural installation—where gesture, structure, and release unfold across the wall as one continuous visual experience.

Sweeping forms in charcoal black and raw umber move across a warm ivory field, building tension, converging at the center, and gradually dissolving into openness. Each panel carries its own presence, yet together they form a unified composition that reads as one complete work rather than separate pieces.

Balanced, restrained, and quietly expressive, the triptych introduces scale and structure to a space without overwhelming it—anchoring the room with clarity and intention.

🎨 Materials & Quality

Each panel is printed on museum-grade archival matte, acid-free fine art paper using the finest giclée aqueous pigment inks, achieving exceptional tonal depth, soft gradation, and precise detail.

The surface reflects the character of painted abstraction—subtle texture, tonal variation, and natural edge transitions—while maintaining the consistency and longevity of a refined print process designed to resist fading for generations under normal display conditions.

Printed to order and designed to fit standard frame sizes, each panel offers flexibility in presentation while maintaining a gallery-level finish.

📐 Scale & Installation

Each panel is produced in a 2:3 ratio at 32×48 inches, creating a true large-scale installation when displayed together.

Depicted to scale at 32×48, the full triptych is shown in a real interior environment to reflect accurate proportions relative to furniture and wall space, allowing you to confidently visualize its impact.

For proper installation, panels are intended to be hung with approximately 2–3 inches of spacing between frames, resulting in a balanced, gallery-style arrangement that spans approximately 75–85% of a standard sofa width.

🖼️ Configuration Options

  • Full Triptych (Recommended) — Three-panel installation for maximum visual impact
  • Individual Panels Available — Emergence, Axis, and Release may be purchased separately as part of the complete work

🏛️ Design Intent

Part of the Ash and Light Collection, this work explores the interplay between density and openness—where darker forms emerge, gather, and ultimately give way to light.

The three panels form a deliberate progression:

  • Emergence — movement begins
  • Axis — structure and convergence
  • Release — resolution and openness

Together, they create a composition that feels both grounded and expansive—designed to elevate the architecture of the space it inhabits.
